Help your students remember the phonics rule for when two vowels are together in a word. Kathy Griffin creates a multimedia file that is repetitive and catchy and includes example words embedded within the song to help with memory association. The last 5 pages are teaching point pages which have words sorted by their vowel teams. The word sorts contain over 270 words that have vowel combinations. Use the .mov file on your interactive whiteboard, Smart Board, or student computers to highlight words, vowel combinations, or reading strategies. Play "find the word" with your students in whole group or use as a literacy station. Locate the words that have this phonics rule on your word wall to help with reading and spelling. When they come to a word such as boat, remind them of the song, "oa says o, o, o."
This is a .mov file that can be opened with Quick Time on your computer. You no longer have to worry about syncing a power point with the song and setting the timing. It is ready to use on your students' computers or interactive whiteboard. You can use it with your Smart Board and pause during the slides to highlight words, letters, or strategies.

That's awesome. I love to use all of the words at the end to practice the 2 vowel together rule. We have spelling contests and practice having word sorts in our word sort notebooks when the song is over using the teaching points pages. When my kiddos get stuck on a word, I usually sing, "ai says" and then they finish it and read the word. Tell your class Mrs. Griffin said, "Hi!" and to keep on singing. I have them to go with some packets and will hopefully "cross your fingers" have them added this weekend. 4 Listening Strategies songs to go with a Listening Packet. We act this song out using foam hats and big letters. I will be posting this activity on my blog over the next week. When we are in guided reading or I am working independently with a child, I uses this strategy when they come to a word with "two vowels" together. Example: rain Me: "ai says ___." My students fill in the missing part and then are supported to read those words. Watch for a new game set over the next two weeks to go with the file and check out the books set to use during guided reading, independent reading, and as a homework/song folder. All of the words in the multimedia file are in the book sets. Have a great school year full of singing!
