The U.S.A. - Interactive States & Capitals is an essential tool for teachers and students. It includes a total of 212 SMARTBOARD pages designed to test your students' mastery of the location of the current 50 states (United States) and the names of their capitals. Help your students master their states and capitals via 3 interactive, easy-to-use, well designed files (States & Capitals, States & Capitals Matching, and Drag & Drop States) geared to make learning a fun experience for all.

Includes:

States & Capitals – A SMARTBOARD file designed to help students master state placement and capital names. This is accompanied by a set of 50 state cards (size 3x5 – easy to print out on index cards) with the each state and their abbreviation (also includes 50 without abbreviation for more advanced students). Students may be given a card individually or in a group. I then call a student by his/her number randomly with sticks. That student comes up to the SMARTBOARD with his/her card and says the name of the state. Then, he/she clicks on the blue button found on the state. This button is a link to corresponding state with the name shown. There is also a question posted that reads – What is the name of this state’s capital? Click here to see if you’re right! I have the student tell me the name of the capital. Then he/she licks on the link and the name of the capital, along with the state flag and seal are shown. If my class is grouped in teams, I award 1 point for the correct state name and another if the student or team names the capital of the corresponding state.

States & Capitals Matching - A SMARTBOARD file designed to help students make the connection between states and capitals. All 50 states are listed on the screen (as links). I call a student up randomly (usually by drawing their student number) and have him/her select a state on the screen. This state links to a page where the student has to choose the correct capital listed among 9 other choices, all of which are incorrect. If a student makes the correct choice, a page with a trophy is displayed as some positive reinforcement. After a state and capital connection has been made, I either delete the state or drag the state below to the FINISHED STATES area…thereby focusing on the states that have yet to be matched to their corresponding capitals.

*Note: I always make a backup of this file because states are moved from their original location.

Drag & Drop States - A SMARTBOARD file designed to help students master state placement. There are both easy and hard Drag & Drop States pages. The easy page displays the United States with outlines so students can easily find where to place the state. The hard page does not display the state outlines. There is only the border that goes around the whole United States as a guide. I use this file if I have a little extra time in a day. I have also used to 3x5 state cards with this file as well. Students pick a card (face down) and I have them go to the SMARTBOARD and find the state. They name the state and drag it to its proper location. I have found that sometimes it is easier to move the states with the computer mouse.

*Note: States will not fit properly if they are resized.

50 State 3x5 cards (with and without state abbreviations) – I use these cards with the SMARTBOARD files. I laminate them and still have the original ones I made.
