This resource is designed to help learners develop an understanding of the meaning of division of whole numbers through activities and problems involving equal-sized groups and arrays.
By comparing a variety of solution strategies, students will learn the relationship between multiplication and division. (Division is finding an unknown factor in these situations.)
They will use increasingly sophisticated strategies based on properties of operations to calculate factors of whole numbers and solve division problems involving single-digit factors.
For equal-sized group situations, division will require finding both the unknown number of groups and the unknown group size.
