Abstract: The following unit was developed to cover mammals in all their aspects of living from their characteristics to their individual adaptations for survival. The contents of this unit cover National Science Standards researched and located at http://www.nap.edu/readingroom/books/nses/html/6a.html which cover the following areas and levels: Levels k-4 Characteristics of organisms and Organisms and their Environments and Levels 5-8 Diversity and adaptations of organisms. Each area of a mammal’s existence is followed by a quiz on material covered. Each quiz is developed with the section reading in mind in order to gauge student’s reading comprehension. Student learning enhancement is brought to this unit through the use of crossword puzzles, word searches, and poster project. Technology also plays an important part in this unit through the use of Website links to further student comprehension, along with an interactive reading and mission entitled Echo the Bat. NASA provides this educational link with story written by Ginger Butcher and illustrated by Pixelsarus.
