This is a great song to teach at the beginning of the year. Segmentation of phonemes is a hard thing to teach children. Tapping out the sounds of a word to decode it is a strategy I use frequently. I like to pair this song with fun wands or pencils with toppers so they can tap on the table the way they would if they tap the sounds out. Sing the song to help your students remember a great decoding strategy and include movement with the wand for a sure memory

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught Title I reading intervention for 1st and 2nd graders for 8 years. I then became an intervention specialist in all content areas for 8th grade.
