This packet is designed to facilitate vocabulary instruction. These vocabulary worksheets can be used along with any lesson. For example, if you are reading a story, you can have your students use these worksheets along with a dictionary as you are reading a story. Students can record any new vocabulary words that they encounter. These worksheets help students analyze the new vocabulary word and decide which information they need to obtain to understand the definition and how to apply it by constructing a meaningful sentence.
The vocabulary inventory worksheet, enclosed in this packet, is a tracking sheet for the student. The student can track newly learned vocabulary words and constantly refer back to it if he encounters the new word again or simply to review what he has learned. By having the student keep track of his own learning, he takes responsibility for constantly learning and reviewing new vocabulary words.
These worksheets have worked very well with my students. My students have gained an ability to really analyze new vocabulary words that they encounter. It has also helped them remember new words they have learned.
