Are you looking for a fun, fresh way to teach vocabulary words that is aligned to quality text and to the Common Core? I've used the free resource of the Utah First Vocabulary Text Talk lessons (which are based on the book Bringing Words to Life: Robust Vocabulary Instruction by Isabel Beck and Margaret McKeown) which we use at our school to teach Tier 2 vocabulary. For each text talk lesson (based on a popular text) I've created vocabulary word cards (to use while teaching the words to the students), vocabulary wall posters (to anchor the learning once the lesson is over and you want students to continue to know and use this word), and student pages for each text (which you can use immediately after the lesson, later, for morning work, for homework or to start a Text Talk Vocabulary Folder...using a 3 prong folder). Pictures and directions are included. There are enough lessons here to teach a year's worth of Tier 2 vocabulary words. These lessons are also great to leave for a sub to do. Easy to read, easy to understand. Please click on the preview above to get a glimpse of what is included in this hefty bundle.
Thank You!

I have been involved in vocabulary text talk lessons for several years and this product is absolutely the best quality, organized, and direction friendly of anything I have ever seen. One of the best outgrowths of text talk is how well teaching and practicing oral speaking increases students abilities to write higher quality pieces. There's so much of a pay-off when using vocabulary text talk and you've just given me a better way to deliver it to my students! Thanks so much!

These materials are wonderful! They are some of my favorite literature selections and teaching vocab is becoming even more important than ever! Thank you for a great resource!
OOH what a wonderful find! I cannot express how excited I am about this! In my reading methods course in undergrad my professor introduced me to "text talks". I have my HUGE binder of all the text talks in my classroom, but wasn't quite sure how to use them all. This pack solves my problems and I couldn't be happier.. Thank you, thank you!!
Awesome. Well then I'm so glad you found my store. We use text talk lessons to teach Tier 2 vocabulary in K-2 at my school. Thanks for the feedback! :-)

This is just what I needed to start implementing more effective text talk in my classroom. Thanks for this and for steering me to the Utah text talk lessons.
I have always wanted to do more with vocabulary in my room and this is just what I need for my students! Thank you for all of your hard work and then sharing with fellow teachers!! Can't wait to print and use!!!

HI, I purchased the package and love that I can just print out the ones I need but I did notice two that I can't find. Are you able to include, or am I just missing Lily's purple plastic purse words? The picture and pages are there but the word cards seem to be missing. Also in the utah book there are two lesson plans for The Widow's Broom but only one set of words appears on the pages and word cards. could you add both?
Hi! Lily's Purple Plastic Purse (all parts) are on pages 193-196. The Utah author identified four words on this lesson; privacy, amused, disturbed and difficult, but since all the rest of the lessons only include three, privacy is not included in the line-up. I did not that at the top of the word cards for LPPP, the words are there and accurate but it says The Ghost Eye Tree at the top of the page, when it should say Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. I will fix this and reupload. Also, Lily's Big Day (all parts) are pages 189-192.
Good luck! And let me know if you still can't find something.
Jen :-)

I notice in the preview that there are K pages and 1st pages. I have a low 5th grade group. Will this work for them? Or is it too easy?
Great question. Text talks lessons and the vocabulary in the read-alouds are appropriate for K-6. My best advice would be to preview the read-aloud titles and targeted vocabulary words by previewing the Utah First lessons (the link is in the product description) and see if they would be appropriate for your students. My instinct is they will.
