This product develops class debates about topics surrounding World War I. Students are broken into pairs for further primary-source research and debate against others in front of the class. Meanwhile, the audience participates with follow-along guides to remain engaged. The debate is developed along the theme of CNN's former hit television show, CROSSFIRE. During the debate, teams have enough time for the opportunity to address their own contentions, negate those of their opponents, and finally face-off in real-time debate.
This product has TEN resolutions for student debate including:
+ The United States should never have entered WWI.
+ World War I could have been avoided.
+ WWI proved that all countries need to maintain stances of neutrality or isolationism.
This product includes general project directions and specific debate directions that help students become better debators and public speakers. It includes an audience worksheet so that all students may be engaged in the debate regardless of whether or not it is their turn in front of the class.
For teachers, this product includes general guidelines for debates as outlined by Winona State University as well as a scoring rubric for this CNN CROSSFIRE style debate.
