What an awesome idea!!! However, I could see me taking way too much time stuffing envelopes every time I grade papers (i use mailboxes now, but some of the papers never get home!). Do you have a helper/parent volunteer do this? Can you give me some insight into how you organize your week so that this doesn't overwhelm you at the last minute? Again, fantastic communication device!!!!! I just wanted to make sure I could keep up before starting it with my third grade class. Thanks so much for taking time to share!!!!! EB ;)

Great question - because I agree. Anything that takes me more time is not useful at all! Each teacher at my school does it a little differently. Some have parents or students assist with the sorting of the papers into a crate where each student has a folder. For some reason, the kids LOVE to do this and think of it as an award. Some of the younger grade teachers have a 4th or 5th grade assist them during their break, etc. However, how I work it is I grade the papers and put them all in my bin. On Tuesdays, we take 10 minutes (no more) and I give each student a stack of papers and they quickly go around passing them out. When all the papers are handed out, the students quickly organize their work and stuff their own envelope. I've tried doing the other way but I find this works much more efficiently for me. And the kids like to do it. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope you find that it works for you. :-)
