I was looking at your weekly word wizard set and really like the way it hits the third grade skills for the beginning of the year. Can you share some details of the strength of growth from sets one through four? I was hoping there was a preview from each of the sets because I want to make sure the work is strenous enough for the growth that normally occurs throughout the year. Could you provide some insight into the differences between the four sets in terms of the growth of skills? Thanks!

Hi there,
The thumbnails give you an idea of each set, but the format and the way the questions are asked is consistent through the entire 4 sets. They are more difficult for the kids in the beginning of the year simply because they don't often know all of those skills as they start the year. Then as they learn each skill it gets a bit easier for them to complete each set independently. They're really meant to help you hit each skill each week so that they remain fresh for the kids. So in essence, I suppose the questions don't get harder throughout the year (as they do in the math set) However, I did recently make a new set for 2nd grade that are CCSS aligned where the questions do increase in difficulty (mostly in the way they are posed to the kids) and I'm planning on making a set like that for 3rd over the summer. You can give set 4 a try with your kids and see how they do with it in regards to the difficulty level. I hope that that helps!

The grade range is from first grade to fourth grade. I'm concerned that this won't be challenging enough for 4th grade.

Hi there, It might be a bit too easy if you have high fourth graders. I'm working on grade specific versions now. So far I have first and second done. I can send you a sample of a few pages if you'd like to try them out. I have a friend who teaches gifted 3rd and she always tells me she's surprised how much her kids get out of them. Email me at ShopSunnyDays@me.com and I can send you a few pages to try :)

These look amazing, I saw a 3rd grade teacher using this in my district and wanted to purchase some for my classroom. I teach 4th grade though, I noticed you mentioned changing some to fit more of the CCSS standards, which my district is fully implementing next year, just wondering if I should wait to purchase a set or if this will fit to 4th grade? Thank you!

Hi there,
I am currently editing the second grade ccss set, next up is third, then fourth. Each set takes a good month to two months to make though so the fourth grade set might be a summer project. I do have friends in 4th who use the current set though and they say it's a great way to keep skills fresh for their kids. One teacher tells me all the time how shocked she is to find her kids struggling with some of the things she thought would be too easy. I have a few different free versions that you can try to see how it goes with your kids. Just click on my name to go back to my store and on the right, about a third of the way down the page, under my free download, there's a box that says "quick find" type word wizard in there and you should see all the word wizards I have including the freebies. Hope that helps! :)

The set that does not specifically say first grade was designed for a 2-3 range.
I made that first, then got so many requests that I made the specific first grade set. Hope that helps!

I am looking for Grade 2. How do I distinguish which grade when it says for grades 1, 2, 3, and 4?
Thanks!

Hi there, I created that set for my own class originally w/skills that really could span a few grade levels depending on the needs of your kids. I'll be revising it soon to show the correlation of CCSS, but the first page of the preview does list all of the skills if you want to check it against your own grade level CCSS. I hope that helps! :)

Hi there, I haven't bundled these because the files would be too large to upload to tpt. Sorry about that!

I just purchased the Weekly Word Wizard Set Four. I would like to be able to change the sentence type questions to: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. These terms are part of our curriculum. Is there any way you could send me a file where I could edit those questions? Thanks so much.

I can change that for you and send you the file. I've done that before for another set for someone else. Email me at ShopSunnyDays@me.com so I have your email address and I'll get it out to you as soon as I can :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Grades Taught:
Subject Area:

I've been teaching for 17 years. I started out as a 5th grade drop-out prevention teacher and I am currently teaching 2nd grade gifted students. In between, I also taught 3rd and 4th grade, was the Drop-out prevention resource specialist, and taught writing as a special. I value each of my different experiences so much because they have really given me a unique perspective of the needs of so many different teachers and students.
