Passion Pursuits are independent units based upon students' interests. When studying personal interests in greater depth, students also are able to develop research skills and those skills involved in the creation of various products.
Many GT experts (Renzulli, Betts, Feldhusen, Van Taseel-Baska) include investigating personal interests as part of their GT curriculum models.
Passion Pursuits allow teachers to differentiate for students - whether they are gifted, high potential, and/or underachievers, or have other special needs.
This passion pursuit is one of a number posted on TPT for you to consider for your students. These units can easily be adapted for the specific age, needs, and interests of particular students. In addition, please consider related field trips that might enhance this particular unit. Often times, when asked, parents are willing to support this component of their child's development by transporting him/her. Also, your school librarian can be of help by pulling related and appropriate books for your student(s).
