This is an activity to use with the book, "What do you do With a Tail Like This" by Steve Jenkins. The book is a picture book all about animal adaptations. This packet has all thirty animals discussed in the book separated into their adaptations (nose, ears, tail, eyes, feet, and mouth) put on color-coded cards. Students will pick one animal from each of the categories. They will record which they picked and create a new animal by putting all these adaptations together. Then, they will write about their animal (where it lives and how its adaptations help it to survive). I have used this as both a science center and in smaller groups. The packet includes: in-depth directions, a color key, 30 animal cards, and a recording sheet.
