This is a fantastic poetry unit for academically oriented secondary students that focuses on the theme of 'romantic love'. The unit spans approximately 2 weeks of teaching days, depending on the level of the students, and the actual period teaching timelines at various secondary schools. The unit focuses on the following poetic forms: Shakespearean Sonnets, Blazon Poetry, Narrative Poetry and Free Verse Poetry. The unit also includes a day by day planning guide, as well as a note taking handout and rubric and a culminating activity with rubric.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 8 years. For the past 4 of those years, I have been the department head of English/Literacy. My teaching practice has included grades 9-12, in the Academic (University prep), Applied(College prep) and Local (Workplace prep) streams. I have mainly taught English courses, however have also occasionally taught History, Civics, Art and Government.
