This is a math lesson that uses a language arts creative writing assignment for the summarizing activity. The math lesson is a comparison between rate and ratio. The materials in this lesson include a graphic organizer and a power point. The power point includes an activating thinking slide, directions for the students for completing the graphic organizer, and directions for the summarizing activity. This last slide includes directions for the students, a rubric for grading, and an example poem from a previous lesson on rational numbers. The lesson used our math textbook materials for 6th grade, so you will need to modify slide #3 and possibly the graphic organizer to coordinate with your text. For the poem activity, I recommend having a rhyming dictionary for each group.
