Are you looking for writing topics? Well, use this handout/poster to illicit help from your students. Challenge your students to brainstorm a list of writing topics throughout the year from which you or they can choose during the course of the school year. When students take ownership for the assignment, they will be more motivated to write. This form can be kept in writing portfolios or be made into a classroom poster or posters to be hung in the classroom and added to as students come up with ideas. If you're looking for a good topic, you'll have a wealth of topics from which to choose. Multiple posters can be put in strategic places around the room. You can even make a contest out of who comes up with the most GOOD topics or make it a team competition. If you're using Six Traits of Writing with your students, you might like to use this as an alternative for brainstorming of ideas.
SUGGESTION: Run off many of these to keep on hand.

I have taught for 36 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology. My other duties at school include being "Teacher in Charge" and Student Council advisor.
