This two page handout provides and overview of the writing tip Show Don't Tell. In addition to explaining what these two terms mean in relation to writing, I provide ways of knowing when to show and when to tell, tips for revising, and a list of 45 examples to change from telling to showing. These can be used as daily or weekly writing assignments and will stress the importance of elaboration and support in all writing. I taught 9-12 grade English Language Arts, Writing, Journalism (yearbook, newspaper, and literary journal)in a school with a population of 2500. I have also worked as a CRISS (CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies) trainer and a 6-Traits writing trainer for the past eight years and worked at the district level with curriculum implementation and design for five years.
