This is a 64 page unit for teaching the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. There are vocabulary activities, vocabulary crossword puzzles, comprehension questions (both literal and inferencial), and activities for each chapter. Activities include Fact and Opinion, Cause and Effect, Parts of a Novel, Creative Writing, Making Inferences, Factual Comprehension, Expressing Comprehension through Art, Figurative Language, Comparison using Venn Diagrams, and Internet Research.
This is such a good book!
I have also included a cover page in case you would like to put it together as a booklet. Have fun with this one!

I really enjoyed using your materials. I teach fourth grade so it was a little above their overall abilities, but I did it with them. I felt the comprehension questions were really good. They helped me assess the students' comprehension of this stsory.

I used this guide and worksheets the most because they provide thought-provoking questions which create a debate atmosphere within the classroom. It got my students engaged and participating. They LOVE the PuppyFind.com activity that researches the Redbone Coonhounds and how much they would cost to today's standards.
My only problem with this is that the page numbers for the vocabulary section do not match up to the newer versions of this novel (I work in a school that recently opened so we got a lot of newer versions of books). The page numbers only match with the older version and I cannot go back and change the page numbers since it's in a PDF format. I was not able to use the vocabulary portion a lot unless I had extra planning time to hunt the words in the chapters and scratch the page numbers on the student sheets.

I got a message telling me this teaching unit has been revised that I purchased but now my download has expired. I really wish your unit had an answer key to all the comprehension questions and the crossword puzzle...it would make it easier for me to check. Is that available?
