This is a highly engaging literacy center/activity to support the concept of MAIN IDEA in NON-FICTION text using Winter content!
Students will determine the main idea after reading three non-fiction details - all about Winter.
Product Includes:
* Materials for 14 main idea bags!
* Each bag contains:
- Three detail cards
- One 'what's the main idea?' card
- Three main idea cards - cards provide three possible main ideas
(Students choose the correct main idea)
* Numbered backs for detail cards
* Colored backs for main idea cards
* Printable student direction chart to post at center or in classroom
* Two versions of student recording sheet (with student directions on the sheet) for use in centers.

I am still having trouble printing. I am unable to print double sided. Great concept and activities.....I have just spent way to much time and money on ink trying to get it right!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this activity!!! We start off learning about main idea by pulling out 3 or 4 objects that I've put together out of a bag (the details), and then we put the details together to figure out the main idea of the whole bag. So we did a toothbrush, mouthwash, and floss as the details so they came up with keeping your teeth clean as the main idea. They loved it so we're starting nonfiction with it next week so I'll start with the objects again, but then I'll lead into this activity!! It's awesome!! Thank you soooo much!!! :)

Hi! I'm really excited to use the main idea bags next week, but when I printed them out back to back, they didn't align because they are left aligned instead of center. When I went to cut them out, they cut a part off of one of the sides. Is there any way to get them centered so they match back to back?? Thank you!!

This is my 7th year teaching - and I love what I do! My experience includes both first and second grade as well as academic enrichment/GATE teacher for grades first through sixth. I returned to second grade in 2010 and I've been loving every minute of it! Second graders are wonderful!
