In this packet, children create a book that depicts what happens to animals and people in the winter. A simple explanation for how winter comes to Earth is given as well as for the terms MIGRATE, HIBERNATE, and ADAPTATION. A full color book with real life pictures is included that can be laminated, bound, and used for an introduction to the topic. There are 2 options for the student book given. OPTION ONE Students follow step by step directions to create illustrations for each page. OPTION TWO Students color black line drawings of the animals and people included in the book.

This unit was fantastic. I combined it with a art activity using basic drawing skills. I combined this with the math and literacy unit. The students made their own complete winter book. I demonstrated the Why winter happens with a lamp and an apple to show them why we have winter. They were engaged and couldn't wait until we did our next winter thing.

This unit has lots of good information on Animals in Winter and is a great resource. I really like the animal pictures included in the activities. Also, my students love to draw animals so they will love the step-by-step picture instructions.
