This is a powerpoint presentation (37 slides) that that examines the role of women, art, and geometry in the Basotho tribes of South Africa. It includes beautiful pictures of Litemas which are patterns drawn onto their homes. The mathematical lesson presented here is horizontal, vertical, and diagonal symmetry. Students are taught how to create their own litema using a repeating unit cell that contains symmetry.
