Teaching word problems to middle school students can be difficult and this helps to make problem solving a major component of your class without overwhelming the teacher or students. The Word Problem Journal is a weekly exercise in breaking down and solving word problems. This document gives you a rationale, a rubric, weekly word problems with answers and suggested strategies, as well student samples. The Level 2 word problems were created for a 7th grade on level class but can be used for 6th-8th graders.
