Use these 32 multiple choice task cards to practice word root meanings. A student answer sheet for students to record their answers is included along with an answer key for self-checking. There is also a Challenge Card that can be used in conjunction with any other card to extend the activity. These task cards are perfect for test prep and will work well at literacy centers, stations, for partner work, or with the whole class using a game like Scoot.
These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.
These cards help to build a foundation for Common Core Standard L.4 for grades 4, 5 and 6:
Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 4 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
-Use common, grade-appropriate Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word.
Another set of Word Root Task cards that uses sentences instead of word pairs can be found in the Task Card section of my TpT store.

I purchased every single language art task cards last night you have available for fifth grade! I can't wait to use all of them next year. Printed them off all at school today and am waiting for the laminator to be filled so that I can keep them nice and clean! Am using one set tomorrow! Next up to buy...all math task cards!

Anyone else have trouble when printing the cards? I've never had an issue with any of your products, but for some reason after downloading this particular set, they will not print off of any computer in my school!

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time.
