These can be used as a way to pretest/posttest students. They are also a fun way to use formative assessment in the classroom. They can be moved to workstations after you have taught the skills.
Common Core Standards:
L.1.5. With guidance and support from adults, demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
RF.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
RF.1.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
RF.2.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
1.OA.6. Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.
1.NBT.3. Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I teach a k-5 self-contained classroom for children with special needs. It's very much like the old one room schoolhouse. I taught a resource classroom from 1999-2004. I've been in my one room schoolhouse since 2004. I am privileged to teach in an arts integrated, Title I school. We use the arts to teach the core academic standards.
