Word Stretchers is a collection of activities and templates to help students focus on letter-sound relationships.
Hearing individual sounds in words and learning which letters typically represent those sounds is important for students to be able to decode when they read, and to spell words phonetically when they write.
Even older elementary students can benefit from regularly practicing this skill.
This packet includes three "generic" ideas to help students stretch words and focus on letter-sound relationships. You can easily incorporate these activities into your spelling routine, word work, morning work or literacy center time.
In this packet, you'll find an overview of the three word stretching activities, a general worksheet to go with each activity, examples, word stretching mats to use as posters or for center activities, and a customizable Microsoft Word document for you to add your own spelling words.
