By Emily Kissner. These were created to be independent practice after I taught the word root. I taught each root and created a root map with the students, looking at how the meaning of the root related to the meaning of each word. Then, students worked on these pages as classwork or homework. Included are the roots aud, spect, domin, port, leg, and pend. These are not glamorous, but can contribute to good, solid word study instruction.

I'm the author of two books for Heinemann: Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Retelling, and The Forest AND the Trees: Helping Readings Identify Important Details in Texts and Tests. Both books help teachers to figure out and meet the needs of their students.
