This packet of "Words for Writers" includes spelling resources for young writers to help foster independence during writing workshop. Many primary classrooms have a word wall for children to refer to when writing, but wall space is often limited for other spelling resources. I use the resources in this set in my whole-group minilessons ("What do writers do when they don't know how to spell a word?") and then give them to the children to keep in their writing notebooks. This way, they always have access to "Holiday Words," "Color Words," "Body Words," "Other Ways to Say Happy," and so on. If wall space is not an issue for you, you might want to enlarge these resources to poster-size and post them where your writers can see them when writing.
For some of these resources, I also included a "blank sample" in case you'd rather personalize them or use them in a word-study lesson prior to writing workshop. Each sheet has enough white space available to brainstorm and add additional words as needed.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
