Need a great ice breaker for the beginning of the year? I used this lesson during the first week of classes. I had the students write biographies of each other, and then I posted the biographies and the students' pictures on the bulletin board. The students loved it and it was a way for them to practice communicating with others and learning more about the people around them. This will: help students to understand how a well written biography begins, provide questions that will give them meaningful answers and display a rubric for teacher and student to follow upon evaluation of the biography.

Before becoming a teacher, I was a substitute teacher as I attended my undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Geneseo. I have been a high school English teacher in New York State for 10 years. My undergraduate work consisted of Secondary Education with Concentration in English and History from SUNY Geneseo. My master's degree concentrated on integrating technology into the curriculum from the University of Phoenix Online. Many of my lessons integrate the use of technology in some way. I have been a teacher author for Teachers Pay Teachers since March of 2007.
