A fabulous tool for easily teaching students how to create a 5-paragraph essay.
My students used this on our end of year test and they did wonderful!
This effectice technique is called the LEVELS of WRITING. It teaches students to create different levels of writing (main idea, supporting details) and how to organize their essay into a cohesive story. It does this by giving students a simple outline that they can use for almost ANY prompt- they use the same outline, but they can create a multitude of different stories.
This is a wonderful way to teach a basic five paragraph essay. The idea is this: Level 1 is the main idea of your whole STORY. Level 2 is the main idea of your PARAGRAPH. Level 3 is the DETAIL in each paragraph. Guide students in filling out each LEVELS of WRITING according to the prompt on the page. This outline can very easily be transferred to a real essay by creating full sentences out of each level.
It can be used with almost ANY style of writing. Once you teach your students this simple technique, they will be able to create wonderful stories for almost ANY prompt given to them.
Students can use their LEVELS practice sheets to create a detailed outline of their story in less than 5 minutes. ---Makes a great morning work assignment or entry task as students come in to your room each day.
