I created these activities for my students writing center. They are all independent and fun! These can be used throughout the year (more than once). Students can even use a clipboard to work on them, which is usually a big hit in my class! Included in this product is:
Magazine Writing (pgs 3-7)- Students can locate capital/lower case letters in a magazine, 'shop' in a magazine and record what they would like to buy, write their sight/spelling words and cut out the letters from a magazine.
Sight Word/Word Wall Writing (pgs 8-14) Students will write their sight words 5 different ways, write-it, build-it and decorate-it, rainbow write their words, search for their sight words in a book, and work on a word wall investigation.
Dictionary Activities (pgs 15-24) Students will be introduced to dictionary writing by first focusing on one letter. Then, will move on to finding a word for each letter of the alphabet in the dictionary. They will also dig through the dictionary for words and record the page number and/or guide words. Lastly, students will choose a Fancy Nancy word to locate in the dictionary and record the page, guide words, and they will decorate their word.
Name Activities (pgs 25-30) Using the students names in the class, they will write their name 5 different ways, rainbow write, count how many letters are in each child's name, and clap out the syllables in their classmate's name.
Global Writing (pgs 31-35) Introduce Global Writing by allowing students to record anything they find on the globe. Move on to finding something on the globe for each letter in the alphabet. Then, students will record different places found in the 7 continents, different bodies of water, and write where they would like to travel.
Write the Room Activities (pgs 36-57) Introduce write the room by allowing students to write any words that they find around the room. Move on to having the students find something in the room for each letter of the alphabet. Students will also write the room and circle all the vowels and write the room and clap out the number of syllables. Also included- monthly/thematic and seasonal write the room activities.
Book Review Writing (pgs 58-62) Students will act as a critic and rate their book. There is a book review activity, a fabulous character activity, and a setting of the story worksheet.
Sticker Writing (pgs 63-66) Students can create a story using stickers in place of some words. They can also create an illustration with stickers and then write a story about their picture.
Absolutely in love with this packet! My kids have love every activity too. I especially like all the variations for write the room and dictionary work!
This pack is amazing! So many wonderful ideas for hands-on learning. My students have really enjoyed all of the activities. Thanks so much. Wonderful value for money :)
