This sheet was created for taping to the inside cover of writing journals. It has samples of beginning sentences for a story or journal entry in six catagories: Describe the Location, Describe the Main Character, Tell the Main Character's Thoughts, etc.
The sheet helps students overcome the "writer's block" of how to compose the first sentence by giving them a solid/specific idea to start with (such as Describe the Action).
After I started using this sheet, more students were able to get on task quicker -- there was more time spent writting, and much less struggling and frustration for students who once would say, "I don't know how to start."
