Need an easy poetry lesson for writing workshop? This is a scripted minilesson using a Jack Prelutsky poem. Kids love Jack Prelutsky so it's a good motivator using him as a model for repetition and comparisons using -er words.
Students are prompted to make comparison, use repetition, as well as try a surprise ending to their poem, like Jack Prelutsky did in his poem.
Written as a scripted lesson it includes the mini-lesson areas: CONNECTION, MODEL, TRY IT OUT, SOLIDFY, as well as INDEPENDENT PRACTICE and WHOLE GROUP SHARE.
This is scripted but very easy to modify to make the lesson your own!
