This writing tutorial models how to pick out key words from a prompt, create a graphic organizer, and stretch the graphic organizer into strong paragraphs. It details how to create the graphic organizer which is my FAVORITE graphic organizer to use in writing because it models writing the topic and closing sentences BEFORE brainstorming the middle. Once you're working on the middle, it models adding THREE similes. In most states, an organized paper (beginning, middle, end) that stays on focus and includes figurative language will score at least a proficient score. The main focus of this lesson is prewriting, and the actual writing includes three slides. The story isn't finished, but there's plenty of strong writing (three slides) to get students started on their writing assignment.
