This is a detailed writing rubric that allows you to track student progress from early emergent writing, typically found in Kindergarten, to more fluent engaging writing which tends to emerge around Grade 2.
Writing is a very complex skill to assess and this rubric breaks it down into easy steps. Teachers can easily pinpoint where their students are in the different writing skills and see where they need to go from there.
It is divided into 2 major sections - Writing Style and Writing Conventions. The Rubric has 5 columns representing Grade level expectations. Of course these may vary from school to school, but the headings can be changed. Regardless of the heading the progression in writing style stays the same.
We have found this assessment tool very effective in steering our students to the next step in their writing progression and in celebrating their accomplishments while recognizing which areas they still need to improve in. We hope you also find it useful.
