I told my students that it would be great to make a list of items to remember to slip in their pockets and constantly memorize before the state writing assessment day. I put this sheet together for them and they highlighted all of the things they knew they already do and with another color highlighter, they marked things they know they have to add in order to make their writing skills grow.

:) Thank you MissRML, I totally appreciate your kind comments. I really like to set up my lessons to have students self-monitor and constantly evaluate their own work. I teach them about annotations and how annotating their own work helps to improve their own writing because they are metacognitively thinking/responding to the one who matters the most-themselves! :) Please check out my writing bundle. I have been teaching for 17 years. I currently teach 6th Grade Science after recently teaching for 3 years in ELA. Prior to that I was a Gifted Coordinator for a digital school called The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT)and worked also with the special education department. I have taught science, English Language Arts, art history, and social studies.
