Writer's Workshop is a wonderful way to incorporate all of the ELA standards while introducing your students to the love of writing. This best practice unit was created by two kindergarten teachers with over 20 years of classroom experience. Classroom tested and student approved.

This is the FOURTH unit in a series of monthly units that will walk you through the fourth month of writer's workshop. This unit is about Writing for a reason. It includes lessons on persuasive writing, letter writing, making signs, writing reviews, and more. This unit lists several mentor texts for the mini lessons. The texts used are: I Ain't Gonna Paint No More, Click, Clack Moo, Earrings, The Perfect Pet.

Hi Deanna,
Continuing son's English study at home, while in Japan, therefore no connection with "the Common Core" curriculum. Will the Writing Through the Year units work for me as stand alone teaching material?

How many units are there or will there be for the Kindergarten Writing through the Year? I have seen Units 1-6. I was wondering for my school year o 2013-2014. I have the first 2 units and I love them. The units are clear and easy to use. Thank you for making such useful writing units.

Hi Deanna,
I love this unit! My class is really doing a great job of writing for a reason! I wanted to let you know that I think there is a mistake on Day 13 in the "try it out" section. It says add a helpful hint or warning which is from the prior How to unit instead of adding your voice. Just thought you might want to change it for future users. Again, thanks for all you do! You and DeeDee are making me such a better teacher!

Hey Deanna,
I just finished printing this unit in color and there are small lines on a lot of the papers. I wanted to see if you could tell me if it could be fixed. I asked our IT person at our school and she did not know why it would do that. We have the latest version of adobe.

Hi Kim, Even though you have the latest version of Adobe you still need to run updates every so often. Since no one else has reported that problem I would try that. If it doesn't help you may want to try a different printer to see if it is a printer issue. I just printed out a few pages to double check and they printed out fine. Please let me know if you still have a problem after trying the above. Thanks so much!
