A quick-to-use PowerPoint presentation to help you teach your students what not to include in their formal academic writing.

"Word Trash" is the code name my students use for words, phrases, and writing habits that should never appear in formal, academic writing. This PowerPoint walks through some of the main offenders in student writing (certainly not all of them).

I like to print off the 2nd slide (blank except for a picture of a trash can) and use it as a handout. As I go through the PowerPoint, my students copy notes onto their handout version so that they have it in their notebooks for later reference.

Includes "pop-up" boxes with tips and examples.
