This complete unit for teaching persuasive essays has everything you need from pre-writing techniques to group work, ethos, pathos and logos lesson and activities, to worksheets and reference material. Whether you are teaching a simple opinion persuasive essay or an essay that requires outside sources, you'll find what you need here. Classroom-tested and student approved! I've also included a bonus section on MLA formatting and avoiding plagiarism that you will find useful if you require outside sources. All the material is original and new (not the same as my Research Paper writing unit--except the bonus MLA and plagiarism section, which is the same).
Thank you for another great resource! I love the witty yet adorable style you use, and the students enjoyed learning about Persuasion. Thank you, again! :)

This is pretty good. However, I wouldn't necessarily consider it a "unit." I would more consider it a packet of a few activities.
Persuasive writing is complicated and requires students to synthesize all they know about writing. This unit steps them through the process and makes the journey much easier. Would've liked to see explicit examples included to really embed exactly what they needed to do in their own writing. I just LOVE it when I find a unit that allows me to just download and go...thank you so much!

Hi Laura!
How do you think this unit would work with my 6th graders? Since the new common core standards venture at taking kids above and beyond grade level expectations, do you think I would be able to use this? Thanks!
Hello,
The first half of the packet has an activity about persuasive techniques that your sixth graders would love, and you would be able to use the development worksheets but the second half focuses a lot on research, MLA formatting and avoiding plagiarism, and I'm not sure how much of that you do in sixth grade. I hope this helps. Check out my free product with ethos, pathos and logos handouts. Those can be helpful for explaining persuasion.

Hi Laura,
Just checked my bank account and it didn't work. Did it again and it worked this time. Yay! Thank you for this resource!
Kylie
Hello Kylie,
The product is a digital download, as are most products here on teacherspayteachers (if it was a hard good, there would be information about shipping costs and a place for your address, etc...). You should have the product under "My Purchases" on your dashboard, ready to download.

Kylie,
After I responded, I looked for your order, but didn't see anything under Kylie123455...did you use a different login name? Do you remember the date you ordered it? Check and see if it's in your purchases; if not, let me know.
I love your preview of this item. If I bought it, could I place it on my educational website (www.lesson-library.com) which is a membership site with a membership fee of $40/year? I would leave all details of authorship, ownership, etc, on the lesson.
Hello Fiona, thanks for asking, but I can't allow paid products to be downloaded for free. You are welcome to post any of my free products, though. Again, thanks for asking!
I try to make that clear in the description, but I've done the same thing! Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you a little something. laura@lauratorres.com
Hello. I found your blog on the tpt site, followeda link to your store and found and bought this wonderful persuasive writing lesson. Do you have a sample essay I could use along with the lesson that you'd be willing to share? Thanks for you time and consideration!
I will add a persuasive essay to the unit. That's a great idea. Look for it in the next two weeks in your "purchased items"--you can download the updated version.

Hello,
I purchased your research packet and can't wait to use it. Is the persuasive essay complete unit the same thing?
Smiles,
Melinda
Hello Melinda,
The persuasive essay unit is completely different except the "bonus" MLA formatting and avoiding plagiarism sections at the end, which are the same as in the research unit. The persuasive essay unit has my students' all-time favorite pre-writing exercise. I think you'll have fun with it!
