This complete unit has everything you need to teach writing a research paper from start to finish. Everything here is classroom-tested with hundreds of students. There are 50 pages of teacher notes, handouts, worksheets, activities and examples, all in an easy-to-follow progression. Includes pre-writing, how to find appropriate sources, taking notes, writing body paragraphs using the "research sandwich" method, outlining, introductions and conclusions, revising, group work, MLA formatting, avoiding plagiarism and group work. Also included are fun activities for something a little different. Using this unit, your students might actually enjoy writing research papers!
Originally written for high school students, I have had a lot of feedback from junior high teachers letting me know that they have used it effectively in their classrooms as well. Fits Common Core Standards for 8th grade (8.W.1; 8.W.6; 8.W.8)
Very thorough with helpful examples! Perfect for my middle schoolers. Thank you!

The unit is quite detailed and appears most useful for upper elementary / junior high. For my upperclassmen, it will most certainly need to be modified. I am grateful, either way, for neat suggestions.

Hello!
Does this unit focus on creating an argument? Can you apply the lessons to any topic?
Hello,
I'm sorry I missed this question until now. I apologize for being tardy with my answer. Yes, the unit does focus on creating an argument rather than writing an informational paper. You can apply the lessons to any topic. It focuses also on pre-writing and finding good source material.

Hi-
Your teaching duration for this lesson plan is 2 months. I teach college composition and we meet for 3hrs./week. Can you tell me if this lesson will last two months under my circumstances?
I also teach college composition and we meet for 4 hours a week for 11 weeks. I spread out elements of this lesson plan for about 8 of those weeks, but include other material as well. The due dates for the different parts (outlining, rough draft etc...) are spread across that time, but the material does not fill up the entire class periods. This is a basic plan for those with little experience writing research papers. Hope this helps!
