Start your writing minilessons with colorful word definitions with examples. Use mentor texts to make student learning authentic ... THEN give students their own mini copy of the sign as a touchstone of their learning. Teach students to add examples from their own learning and mentor sentences. This file contains 11 quick topics:
nouns, verbs, adjectives, prefixes, suffixes, compound words, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, abbreviations and contractions.
The first 11 pages are the minis formatted 10 to a sheet (use pre-scored business card blanks if you choose). The last 11 pages are the 8 1/2" x 11" signs. Use as a topper to your introductory anchor chart. As you move on to the next topic move them to a binder ring for quick reference in your writing center.
