This project is a great activity for the standard of descriptive speeches. Students write a creative story told from the point of view of an object. For example, the student could write about a pencil having a headache, a lost and found piece of jewelry, or a rock that traveled around the world. The story is then delivered in a speech format. The rubric requires successful use of short story elements, effective body language, appropriate voice, and a length of one to two minutes. This assignment really excites students, and their creativity makes a day of speeches fun for the teacher too!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Cory has 6 years of experience teaching 8th grade social studies. Prior to that he spent one year as a special education instructor. Andrea has four years of teaching experience at the 6th grade level teaching social studies and language arts. Andrea is currently staying at home and designing learning experiences for a boy obsessed with anything with wheels.
