The classroom economy program runs all year and is the backbone of my classroom each year and students absolutely LOVE it!
Students use decimal addition and subtraction to earn a real check book. They earn classroom cash and pay fines and fees through demonstrating responsibility and independence and make decisions about spending and saving. Students apply and become classroom bankers, and manage your classroom bank and do all of the work of running the program including paying for weekly homework.
You receive all of the lessons, activities, classroom cash, and worksheets I’ve created over the years on how write checks and fill out a check ledger. Students will earn a checking account, pay classroom rent and bills and make spending and saving decisions at classroom auctions. This year long program is teacher tested (more than 20 years) and kid approved!

This is just fantastic! The kids are motivated to earn cash and we even used our classroom cash when shopping for gifts in the school store! It was so fun. They are learning a lot and I have partnered with a local credit union who has given me check registers. What a great learning time!

Love this program. The students can't wait to earn school cash. We had a contest to allow them to design a bill too. It has been a great learning experience already. I am using in combination with character building; and the mastery challenges. I had special aprons to store supplies for the student bankers. All students were provided with customer photo ID cards.Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Thanks so much! In my beginning of the year get-to-know-you letter, I let parents know that their child will be earning classroom cash during the year. I tell them that they can be a great support of great homework habits, as completed homework is how their child earns a "paycheck" on payday (homework turn-in day) for doing their job at school. The students themselves will explain it all to their parents, too. You'll have some excited and happy parents to talk to about it at open house and conferences!

The checking lessons would be perfect and practice using ledgers would give great addition & subtraction of decimals practice. I think you could adjust "your" economy to include completing home tasks for your students to earn "classroom cash" for completing real jobs and would be valuable and meaningful.
