Year-Long Reading Log System

Price: 13 pages X .10 = $1.30

Buy a planet set. Use heavy paper for the rockets and laminate them so they will last the whole year. This could be a bulletin board or could also be put below a white board, etc. One year, I put it on the ceiling! Use folders with brads to hold all of the required sheets. This folder should go home each night and be returned each day. Always have blank logs on hand. Students and parents sometimes need help with counting the pages read. Be sure to check the math! Use putty to attach the rockets to the board/wall/planet. Be sure to have a prize for those who reach Pluto (Barely a dwarf planet these days!).

I have been teaching since 1979 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I have always been involved with reading and books. I served as my school's librarian for six years. Over the years I have done a little bit of everything. This makes for an interesting perspective. One of my joys was a literary club. We met once a week in the library. From grades one through seven, children communed with the books and wrote wonderful stories. The student mentoring and sharing of ideas was a thrill to watch. I enjoyed providing the opportunity then stepping back so as not to get in the way!
