As a child, I was a voracious reader and quickly finished books, magazines, etc. I loved to read so much that I would even read the back of the cereal box at breakfast. I have always told my students that I didn't care WHAT they read, as long as they read daily. I am constantly telling them, "You can even read a cereal box!" I decided to make this statement true and voila' a teaching unit was born. I hope you and your students enjoy these activities. Maybe they will even inspire you to make a few of your own. After all, all you need is a few empty cereal boxes!
great activity for summer learning for parents to use!

I've always loved reading the cereal box but this practical packet makes it enjoyable and educational. I think I am going to put this in a summer packet for my 4th graders. If I were to add something, I'd include math but that's just me. I really love this.
This was very cute! I see so many possibilities with this. It is good practice for students to read what is in their foods, and what a great idea to introduce it as soon as they can read a cereal box. I can see including this in my June pages that I am working on right now. Many students will be out of school, but that doesn't mean they need to quit thinking. I see this as an excellent way to keep their brian in shape over the summer months. It's also wonderful for us homeschoolers. If I have your permission, I'd love to feature this in my next month's featured pages on my website. You can email me at clewis@unitedtoteach.com. I have a wide home school audience, as well as many former full time teacher colleagues. I also draw some Google traffic. I would link it back to your store and your name. Thanks! I look forward to using this with my own kids.

LOVE this! One of the best lines on literacy that I heard in college was this one, "Have you read any good cereal boxes lately?" Boy, does this remind me of that! I, too, was a voracious reader and read the cereal boxes--still am and still do. I even save cereal boxes so using this will be a cinch! Thanks so much!
Thank you again for leaving such GREAT, DETAILED feedback. We sellers, really appreciate getting some depth to the feedback. Good luck with your student teaching and much success. Be sure to check out my blog also. I try to give an "extra" freebie on EVERY post! :-)
This is a great idea and so much fun for kids to do at home! I think getting kids to do anything fun like this while also supporting their learning by giving them specific tasks is awesome! Thanks!
How fun! I can remember counting all the "e" s or the "a" trying to guess which vowell was used most often! Oh the things we remember from our childhood that make us smile.
