Congratulations! You've received a very generous donation that allows you to start your very own zoo! Students work in teams to create their own zoo, and practice a few math skills along the way. Teams begin by selecting the animals they want in their zoo, then they draw the animal habitats and design the layout of their zoo. Along with the animals the zoo teams need to decide on the placement of the building around their zoo. Students need to order the animals and calculate the cost of their habitats, food, and caretakers. After their zoos are set up the students will get to experience running the zoos with Daily Scenario cards. The cards tell the daily ticket sales as well as the unexpected expenses like vet bills and building repairs. Students keep track of their profits and expenses on a Daily Zoo Report. The object, of course, is to make money with your zoo. Kids will have a blast planning, desiging and running their own zoos!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
A classroom is a magical place. Engaging, young students enter, ready to learn and mature, confident students leave, more ready to take on the world. My classroom has always been my home away from home. It's important to make a classroom a warm and inviting place for the students and teacher. After all, such a large part of your day and your year is spent within those four walls! I love watching those "light bulbs" go on as students grasp the big idea of the lessons I've planned. The challenge is planning lessons and units that are engaging and academically sound I love that challenge! Through my carreer I've seen many changes, but none as great as the transition to the new Common Core State Standards. My goal is to use my experiences to create engaging, meaningful, and academic based units and materials for classroom teachers. My 30+ years of teaching have included 1st grade, Special Education-Resource program (K-8), 4th grade and my true love- 3rd grade.
