Here are the aw Sound Spelling Pattern Worksheets to help you teach your students how to spell each of the four aw sound-spellings.
Each set of Spelling Pattern Worksheets has these instructional components:
TEACHER RESOURCE PAGE Ten example words to introduce the spelling pattern prior to using the Spelling Patterns Worksheet. Formative Assessment Dictation Sentences to check mastery of the spelling pattern once the worksheet has been completed and corrected.
FOCUS Each worksheet lists the sound-spelling pattern with the appropriate spelling
marks and blanks and example word(s).
SORT Students use pronunciation, analogous spelling patterns, and the spelling marks
and blanks to categorize the sound-spelling pattern words.
RHYME Students write rhymes that apply the sound-spelling pattern.
or SEARCH Students find and write similar sound-spelling words from a book.
JUMBLE Students unravel word jumbles that have the sound-spelling pattern.
WRITE Students practice application of the sound-spelling pattern in the writing context.
Each worksheet has a short formative dictations assessment to ensure mastery. Answers provided, of course.
