I am a 22-year veteran teacher, always in GRADE 1 ! I have taught at a Title 1 school for most of my career. I have been a district laison teacher, a BTSA support provider, a master teacher for new teachers, and a site lead teacher for many years. I have a reading specialist certificate, and currently have 18 EL students ( of 31) in my class.
My teaching style has developed over the years. I like a structured class, where my students feel respected and free to make choices. I enjoy the "buzz" of learning discussions within the classroom. My favorite time of the day, is when we come to the "reading table" to "show off". Show me what you know! I play music, we chant, we dance, and we laugh. I like to have educational games available for both non-readers and gifted students. I also hold my students accountable for their learning. I try to instill in them the love of LEARNING for a lifetime.
I was our district's laison resource teacher for a year during curriculum adoption. I helped train EVERY elementary teacher in our district. A HUGE honor!
I entered the profession late, after having 3 boys at home and a daughter on the way. My highest honor was earning my teaching credential after 3 1/2 years of night school. The degree was a collaborative effort between my husband, my family & myself. I later earned my Reading Certificate, after another stint at night school. I LOVE to learn!
As a Title 1 teacher, I have been trained in MANY excellent programs. GLAD, Dataworks, RTI, Guided Reading, AR, are just a few. All professional trainings make us the teachers we are today. We take a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and combine to create an environment where we laugh and want to learn, for a lifetime!
