About the store
Hi I'm Alyssa, the one-woman wizard behind Teaching in the Fast Lane! I strive to create engaging upper elementary, standards-based resources students love, while keeping rigor high and easing the load on teachers. Currently I am an elementary school librarian in a district right outside Austin, TX. Before that, I taught fourth grade for six years in a suburban school district. Through it all I have worked to create meaningful learning experiences for my students that I can share with others. My current passion is creating engaging resources that meet the needs of a diverse group of students all while making teachers' lives easier by saving them time. All of the resources in my store were created entirely by me. I love to create resources that are cross-curricular, especially when I can integrate reading and writing into a content area.  With each resource that I create, I think about all the teachers and students that will use the resource and how it impacts them.

Teaching style

⭐In the school library I try to provide as much choice to students as possible.  I employ a lot of stations and tictactoe style activities in which students can choose how they would like to show me what they have learned.  Our school just got our first set of Ipads and I am anxious to incorporate these into our classroom as well.   ⭐Cooperative learning and community building are the glue of the learning community and I will never give either up.  I operate on the principles that every student wants to talk, move, and have fun so I try to incorporate as much of each into every day we have together.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Texas State University-San Marcos  Teacher Fellow Cohort 16 M.Ed. from Texas State University-San Marcos Masters of Library Information Science - Texas Woman's University School Leadership Team Conference Presenter

My own education history

I attended Texas State University to earn my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a teaching certificate in early childhood through fourth grade with an additional certification in English as a second language. I enjoyed Texas State University so much that I immediately applied and was accepted into the Teacher Fellows program there to earn my masters. Accordingly, I was able to complete my first year of teaching while attending graduate courses and completing an action research project. I earned a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in this program that also instilled in me the necessity for cooperative learning and community building in the classroom. In 2020, I went back to school to earn my Masters in Library Information Science in order to become a school librarian.

Additional biographical information

When I am not working on my classroom I enjoy reading, traveling, binging on Netflix, and racing cars. It is currently one of my goals to visit all fifty states and all seven continents, but I won't stop after reaching that goal.
