I have 13 years of teaching experience in both middle school and high school classrooms. I have taught in public, private, charter, and alternative school settings. My specialty is mathematics, but most of my experiences have involved the teaching of several subjects such as English, history, science, and government.
The only time I really enjoy teaching is when students are actively engaged with the content. I am a big believer in "hands-on" learning, and I will always look first to assess with a meaningful project before giving tests.
Seeing that one of my students has passed a standardized test is always a shining moment for me!
I graduated from Whittier College in 1996, where I received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a secondary teaching certification in math as well. An opportunity to teach in Tucson arose shortly after graduation. Always partial to the state of Arizona, and huge Wildcat fan, I jumped at the chance. I have now been teaching in Tucson for 12 years.
In 2002 I met my lovely wife Lauren at an inflatable Sumo Wrestling event where I was referee. The conversation was brief, as I was just on my way to a softball game--but begrudgingly I went to it. She allowed me to think about her for several months before our paths crossed again. . .until appearing as a surprise guest to a party I was hosting. The rest is history. We married in May of 2006, and have just celebrated our third happy year together, with many more to come!
