Rebecca Kinsey  (TpT Seller) re: Telling Time PowerPoint
How do you make this sort of thing from scratch? I have been researching like crazy, and cannot figure out how to make my own stuff like this. Do you a certain program or software?
February 2, 2014
Alissa Walters  (TpT Seller)
I had to teach myself! My telling time PowerPoint literally took me over 5 hours to make because I have to create every single line, tick, number, hand, etc in it and then had to create all the animations, language and more! I am getting better at them time-wise, but I am still learning. If you would like some help, feel free to contact me at stardust12081@yahoo.com or on fb under Teaching Third. :) Have a wonderful day!

Hi Alissa,
I bought and downloaded your closed syllable Treasure Hunt game. For some reason I was only able to download 11 pages and I believe there are 19. I don't have any of the cards for single syllable words, and I think I am missing all of the worksheets. It could have been an error on my part as I have an old laptop. I was also a bit confused about the game itself - could be because I am missing pages. The answer key has two routes - so how do they follow a single trail? Also on the multisyllable words are the kids looking at the first syllable? Or just any syllable in the word that could be closed? I was confused by some of the words such as buccaneer - I thought that it would be closed but the answer key says it is not. This is also my first time teaching syllables, so it could all be confusion on my part! The game is really cute and I hoping to use it soon! Thank you! Ann

Alissa Walters  (TpT Seller)
Hello, Ann! Thank you for the purchase and for contacting me. You are correct, you are missing some of the pages. There are 19 in the file when it is fully downloaded. You may try downloading it again on your computer, or if you think it is your computer, try it on another computer and then transfer the file in e-mail or by flash drive. There should be a teacher letter, game boards, word lists that go with the game boards, cards for both activities, directions, and answer sheets for both activities.
In the second activity, they are identifying closed multisyllabic words (all syllables have to be closed). So in buccaneer, only the first syllable is closed. The ending syllable has two vowels and so it is not closed. However, a word like flagship would be closed because both syllables only have one vowel (and it has to be short) and one consonant after the vowel.
Please try to reload the file. If it doesn't work please let me know asap. The best way to contact me is at stardust12081@yahoo.com. If you would like help with the rules for closed syllables, I don't mind helping you with that too. We were trained in it and in the beginning we all found it difficult also! Alissa

Could you modify the book recommendation to have an owl instead of the zebra or koi, and on the other side have a 1/2 page for providing a summary about the book?
April 8, 2013
Alissa Walters  (TpT Seller)
Sure. Report cards are due by Friday. If you don't mind waiting I can definitely do it for you. Would you like the summary to be connected all within one set of dotted lines or two separate dotted lines just like the examples? One for the basic information and one for the summary? :)

Just realized you may not be able to write back this way. My e-mail is stardust12081@yahoo.com and if you can give me a little more info about what you would like I can make it for you.

Kelsey L. re: Multiplication Certificates (0-12 times tables) Mouse Theme
Is there any way you could also make these certificates to include mastering the facts all the way to 12? I really love them, but I would hate to have to use a different theme for the facts 10-12.

Alissa Walters  (TpT Seller)
Sure. It's done for you. I added 10, 11, 12 and 0-12 for you. :)

Update: Thank you for purchasing it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Buyer re: Fundations breakdown for unit tests to give to parents
Hello,
You mentioned that you attach this sheet to the unit test when you send the test home. Did you not have composition books for the unit tests? I really would like to give the parents something to let them know how their students are doing, but am struggling because our tests are in our composition books. I don't want to send home their books because I will probably never get them back!

What do you think would be best!

I just started in a maternity leave position, so I am learning!

Thanks
November 6, 2012
Alissa Walters  (TpT Seller)
Hello. Thank you for your question! Yes, I had their composition books, but I made copies of the test page and used that to send home because of the same reason you had-not getting them back. Here are two things you may want to consider. 1. If you are required to have them do it in their books then photocopy it their tests when they are done and send the copy with the attached sheet for the parents home. 2. Photocopy the page and have the students do the test and then either run it through again (so you can keep a copy in their portfolios and send the original home with the summary test sheet I use) or just send it home if you don't need it after you mark it. I hope these suggestions help! If you need any other tips/strategies/help for anything feel free to contact me at stardust12081@yahoo.com I always wished I had someone to help me with my questions when I first started years ago! Happy teaching! Alissa

Alissa, I was so excited to purchase your telling time power point, however when I downloaded the power point, it didn't line up correctly on my computer at school. The clocks used in the practice exercises are slightly off. What can I do to correct this?

I just purchased your main idea - icebergs lesson. It did not include the article which it refers to, how can I get the article in order to use the lesson?
January 26, 2012

The activity is an extension for people who have Lakeshore's Reading Comprehension centers. The centers are not long enough for districts like mine that have 40 minute blocks so I created an activity to use if you have the center. If you don't have the center, I can see if there is a way to give you your money back. They are great centers though if you are interested in buying them from Lakeshore-just not long enough on their own for my 40 min. block with 3rd graders. www.lakeshorelearning.com product EE380X. Pricey, but last almost the whole year if done once a week.
