Michelle B. re: Color Word Flash Cards with ASL spelling
This is dumb. I know that sounds mean, but these are not color signs!!! Would you (as a hearing person) say this: "Oh, I see the color purple" or this "O-h, I s-e-e t-h-e- c-o-l-o-r p-u-r-p-l-e"? Seriously, google ASL colors or ASL purple. Do you really think deaf people spell each letter of every word they speak? Is that how hearing people communicate? No. There is a sign for purple, a sign for yellow, a sign for blue. This product is silly. Kids can easily learn ASL color sign. "Blue" is lovely: the hand in the shape of the letter ASL "b," then move it above your head, as if it is a paintbrush painting the sky (but still in the ASL "b" handshape). Useless.

Thank you for your criticism, be it constructive or not. I do not claim that these are color words signs in my description. Please retread how they are to be used. I know what the actual signs are for the colors and teach them to my students as well. The point is to have the students learn their color words (reading them) and how to spell them using the ASl finger spelling. There are studies that prove that finger spelling sight words helps them to learn and retain the spelling of the words. I put the product together like this so that they can play various games (I.e go fish). If the teacher chooses she/he can have the children spell the words as they collect their matches. I am sorry that you feel this is useless.

Hi,
I watched your video. I use sign language in my classroom for permission to use the bathroom. I really like the idea of adding manners to the signs in my classroom. Do you have the cards you mentioned in the video for sale?

Thank you!

Hi Erin, Sorry I don't have them for sale. They came from a company where I got certified and they are copyrighted. Check out this site in case it has something you need or you can google sign language cards too. http://www.babysignlanguage.com/flash-cards/p/please/. Hope that helps.

hi Paige. Thanks for asking a question. Do you have a smartboard at school or the smartnotebook software installed on your computer or laptop? It was created with this program so most likely will only work with it. If not, you might be able to download a free trial of the software.http://smarttech.com/downloads
If you do have it, try saving the file first, then open the software, and then try opening the file. Hope that helps. :)

Hi,
I am anxious to use this program but it will not open on my computer. Any suggestions? I have the latest Adobe (had to upgrade for another purchase I made) so I don't think that is the problem. ?????

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I also teach baby sign language workshops to parents and caregivers.Baby Sign Language teaches simple gestures or signs, (American Sign Language) to hearing babies before they can speak). It helps bridge the gap of communication, strengthens bonds between babies and adults and enhances their language and vocabulary development. Come and find out more at my website www.toocutesigning.com I also began using ASL in my K and 1st grade classrooms the past few years. I have found it helpful with management, retention of sight words, manners, and keeping all students actively engaged and learning! It is a great way to differentiate instruction and to include many modalities while teaching/learning.
